A response to Laurie Lee’s book ‘As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning’, which documented his journey on foot from his home in Slad, in the Cotswolds, to Spain and the civil war there. I reflected on how little news he would have been hearing, newspapers and hearsay probably all days old.

I listen constantly to Radio 4, I’m bombarded with information minute by minute from around the world. One weekend in the summer of 2025, I heard words I couldn’t ignore; they went round and round in my head, and I needed to write them down. This is the resulting short film.
